Welcome back for month TWO of our year-long challenge, Cracked Open: Becoming Intimate With Your SELF.
In January we discussed the Truth of your resting dynamic state, that you’re gooey — soft, vulnerable, inherently valuable and worthy of affection, connection, and protection.
This month, we're getting to the heart of the matter, yours 🩷
As a Therapist, I'm aware that so many of us struggle to internalize THE TRUTH of who we are and that breaks my heart, because I've been there. But that’s why we’re here! And now that we’re cracked open, we have room for internal “inflation”.
This month I embarked upon an cosmic mission to PROVE to you what I already know for sure, that you're precious and YOU MATTER, no matter what.
I think, one of the first things we have to know when it comes to becoming more intimate with who we are is to figure out where we come from and what we’re made of.
NO BIGGIE!
And to deliver you the goods for February’s monthly challenge, I searched far and wide for evidence. Traveling down the intergalactic library halls of chemistry, cosmology, theoretical physics, quantum optics, theology, etc. — all with the pursuit of proving your preciousness!
Despite the strenuous intellectual climb, and charting unknown territory, I kept my focal point on YOU, believed I could if my Goo stuck to it, and the good news is, I made it through it!

While I learned a lot, one thing’s clear — we're NO WHERE NEAR having “perfect” evidence for the answers to my far out questions (and just maybe life was designed that way). But, in the world of cosmology and astrophysics — we can rest assured, asymmetry made YOUR life possible. And as it turns out, beauty IS in the eye of the beholder.
HERE’S TO IMPERFECTION!
And these cosmologists and astrophysicists are pretty sure the story of our matter is a “1-in-a-Billion Miracle.”
So, I looked into it. Which was no easy feat but I’ve arrived at a good enough place, for now, and I brought the receipts!
So get a cup of coffee and buckle up — we're going for a ride to the top of Love is Fun — Space Mountain!
Here's our space map…
We’ll begin by defining the word precious, next we'll learn what we deem precious, and then we’ll explore why that “matters” to us in our pursuit of becoming more intimate with our SELF.
Precious Defined: rare, valuable, cherished, costly, should NOT be wasted.
The three most precious things — according to AI:
“What’s the most precious thing to humans?” Life. Check ✓
“What's the most precious thing to all species?” Light. Check ✓
“What’s the most precious thing on earth?” Antimatter. Check ✓ Wait, what the heck?
Just So We’re Clear — More Definitions:
Light: Waves of massless packets of electromagnetic energy called photons carrying energy that sustains all life. (Surf’s up! 🏄♀️💡)
Life (Made of Matter +): Any substance that has mass and takes up physical space. These particles form the atoms that make up everything from stars to your own body. Rad! 🌟
Antimatter (Matter’s Mirror -): The “mirror image” or inversion of matter. It possesses the exact same mass as its matter counterpart but carries the opposite electrical charge. (Same mask, different charge 🎭).
So it seems the three things we consider most precious have one another in common!
Let’s explore…
Once upon the beginning of time, 13.8 billion years ago — yes we're going there — I got you Goo— there existed a tiny point— made up of all there ever was or will be.
Singularity!
The energy of this tiny point was balanced, unified and in a static state of rest.
Until, something internal began to shift.
Side Note: The Law Of Conservation of Energy: Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be transformed. Check ✓
The tension of infinite potential in its current form provoked an internal drive to “matter” — to inflate and stretch out.
Pure static energy, starting to move? But what sparked it?
The Fundamental Forces of The Universe — “The Field” made up of Gravity, Strong Force, Weak Force, and Electromagnetic Energy — obvi!
But where did they come from?
Oh, Goo… what I’ve come to realize — we’ve been chasing our light tails forever on this one. And what I think about that is, it’s ultimately up to you to decide. 😘
But, for now, let’s think about, or sense, a The Force Field!
Well technically we always are, but let’s have some fun with it, shall we?
As an example, if you’ve ever played with the same side of two magnets you’ve felt the energy between them.
You can't see it, but you know it’s there, because you can feel it. It’s kind of a gooey feeling isn’t it?
So, Singularity begins to stretch, press or “squeeze” (whatever feels most accurate to you) under heat and pressure, in a process physicists call “The Inflation”.
The energy “inflates” instantly to the size of a soccer ball! Wow, that’s actually pretty small.
Is that why they call it, “inflating the ball”?.
And the reason it's called inflation rather than expansion is because of the speed and shape of its rapid growth.
What happens next is FAST and profound. The energy, in its pure state, separates into one novemvigintillion (yes, that’s a word) or a 1 with 90 zeroes, near equal parts matter (+’s) and antimatter (-’s).
Physics calls what follows, “The Annihilation” in that every particle of matter INSTANTLY found its mirror (inverse or opposite) particle of antimatter, and “annihilated,” into gamma rays or pure light. Talk about a hook up!
Yet, instead of total annihilation, something remained. ONE “extra” particle of matter for every billion matter and antimatter pairs that bonded and transformed, were left out.
Awww… that’s sad, can you pass the Kleenex?!
But as we learned in Moving the Ball Forward: On Making Decisions — there’s a gain and a cost to every decision, or phenomenon.
In this case, the cost— the left out matter didn’t meet their “fatal attraction” and “annihilate” into pure light on their first date. And some of us have been there and know what that’s like. Okay, I’m open… what’s the upside?
THE GAIN… being left out meant they got to MATTER and have a life. And the likelihood of YOU winning that ticket to the embodied Titanic, like Jack Dawson, and experiencing the joy of it (before it sinks—or whatever) is a 1-in-a-Billion Miracle. I’ll take it!
Said another way, for every billion pairs that transformed each other into pure light, only one "lucky" particle of matter was left over to create everything we see including our face in the mirror — though that's a reflection, not an inversion.
YOU are part of the 0.0000001% standing matter of a massive cosmic explosion!
And for those of you who grapple with the fact that life’s not perfectly fair — if the ratio was 1:1, there would be no stars, no planets, and no YOU—just a vast, dark sea of light.
Here’s to injustice!
As it turns out sometimes being left out, can be the very thing that saves your life!
And LIFE — your life — and what matters to you ultimately comes down to your perspective and how you evaluate it. 🍒
ONCE MORE…. YOU are the "One-in-a-Billion Miracle!”
Physicists often use this exact phrase to describe the matter-antimatter asymmetry. It highlights that for every billion pairs that canceled each other out into pure light, only one "lucky" particle of matter was left over to create everything we see — including YOU!
Wait, didn’t you already say that?
YES, I’m repeating myself because — sometimes we struggle to ACCEPT how much we matter and I won’t leave here until YOU get it!

Speaking of justice — let’s give the probability we’re here it’s due credit, because this One-in-a-Billion Miracle jargon doesn’t even come close to depicting the reality of it.

Ready for it?!
Ultimately, our existence is the result of a mathematical miracle that defies imagination.
While it’s a "one in a billion" win just for matter (your matter) to have survived its initial “annihilation,” or transformation, with antimatter, the true odds of a life-sustaining universe are even more staggering.
According to physicist Sir Roger Penrose, the precision required for the Big Bang to produce an ordered universe (which you're a part of)—rather than a chaotic mess of black holes—is one in ten to the power of ten to the one hundred and twenty-third. Is that even a thing?
YES!
To put that scale in perspective, there aren't enough atoms in the entire observable universe to even write out all the zeros in that number. We are quite literally the tiny fraction of a percent of "stuff" that emerged from a sea of energy, against odds, and so high it makes this number: 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 look like a rounding error.
WOW… that was INTENSE!

In all seriousness — we could really end February’s Reflection here because what I've given you so far is more than enough. But gurrrrlllll… I’m all in and I’m doubling-down this month. Self-Intimacy Mantra: I am the 1-in-a-Billion Miracle!
Yep, we’re getting an A on this test!
Before we proceed, let’s CLEAR the “ 1-in-a-Billion Miracle” math.
An Annihilation Cheat Sheet: Using a sweet and simple 🍒 101-particle scale:
Total: 101 particles.
Matter (The Pluses): 51 particles (Life).
Antimatter (The Minuses): 50 particles (Mirror).
The Big Bang: 50 matter (Life +) meet 50 antimatter (Mirror-) and transform into (Light that sustains all life).
Remaining: 1 particle of matter (Life)… YOU!

Total Starting Particles (Antimatter + Matter):

There you have it — the raw numbers for all particles that partook, one way or another, in the creation of our universe.

From the 🍒 Top: In the first moments of the universe, there was a near-perfect balance. The EXTRA “1" in one-billion is the reason you’re alive today!!!

Fun Fact: The Pacific Ocean Metaphor: 🌊
To visualize how many particles were transformed into light during “The Annihilation,” (that I, your Goo blogging Therapist like to refer to as The Transformation), imagine the early universe was as vast as the entire Pacific Ocean. After the matter and antimatter finished “transforming each other,” the remaining matter or 1-in-1 billion, we see today—every galaxy, sun, and human—is equal to just a single cup of water. 💧
So what happened to “The Extras?!”
The ONE in a billion unpaired matter — hi that’s us!!!??? 🙋♀️
Let’s take an intermission, regroup, and organize what we just learned into a timeline— adding in what happens next:
Deep breath. We’ve got this!
The Timeline:
Singularity: The universe begins as a point of infinite energy and potential. This is a mathematical "singularity" where our current laws of physics break down, yet it contains the total mass-energy of everything that ever was or will be—the absolute potential for all that follows. But remember it’s still all mathematical “SPECulation” pun-intended.
Inflation: At approximately seconds, the universe undergoes exponential expansion. It grows from the size of a subatomic particle to roughly the size of a soccer ball almost instantly, smoothing out the distribution of energy across the cosmos.
Baryogengesis: As the universe cools, energy converts into pairs of matter and antimatter. A physical asymmetry occurs—Baryogengesis—resulting in a slight surplus of matter: approximately one extra particle for every billion pairs.
The Annihilation (Baryogengesis said differently): The mirror-opposite matter and antimatter pairs meet and undergo annihilation. They transform their mass into pure energy, releasing intense light in the form of high-energy gamma rays. Only the one-in-a-billion “EXTRA - high that’s us,” matter particles remain. 🙋♀️
Nucleosynthesis: Roughly 2 to 20 minutes after the start, the universe has expanded to the size of our Solar System. The survivor protons and neutrons fuse to form the first Atomic Nuclei, primarily Hydrogen and Helium.
Recombination: About 380,000 years later, the universe cools enough for electrons to bind to nuclei to form neutral Atoms. This allows light to decouple from matter, turning the "foggy" plasma into a transparent universe and releasing the Cosmic Microwave Background. ✌️💡
The Cosmic Dark Ages: For the next few hundred million years (haha, I can’t), the universe is a vast, dark void. It is filled with neutral hydrogen gas (the “EXTRA” matter) and the fading glow of the initial light, but no stars have ignited yet.
Reionization: Gravity pulls gas clouds together to form the First Stars. Their intense ultraviolet light hits the surrounding hydrogen gas and strips away the electrons (reionizing it), ending the Dark Ages and making the universe transparent. 🌌
Stellar Evolution & Galactic Formation: Stars synthesize heavier elements like carbon and iron in their cores. When they die (transform), they scatter this matter across space, providing the raw materials for planets and the biological matter that constitutes YOU — transformed from stardust! 🌟
Hi, we’re The Vine — we’re smart! 🤯
Debrief :
So far we’ve learned—your LIFE is the most PRECIOUS thing and you MATTER. And the truth of the matter is that only 0.01% of your mass is made of MATTER. The other 99.99% of you is energetic INFINITE POTENTIAL, comprised of all there ever was or will be from a point of SINGULARITY. Yes, INFINITE POTENTIAL. This energy cannot be created or destroyed—only transformed.
You Goo, have been given a ONE-in-a-Billion opportunity to HAVE A LIFE, with 99.99% of you is comprised of infinite potential. Like a sitting rock, a glass of water, or a resting point of singularity,. Now that you KNOW how precious you are and that you MATTER — what are you going to do with all that potential?
Remember the YOU that we see with our physical eye — is only .01% of you. Wild!
Sky’s the limit!
According to the astrophysicists, it seems — your worst-case scenario — if you have a chance encounter with your mirrored opposite — is that you’d continue to exist in THE FIELD of INFINITE POTENTIAL, just as you always have and always will — but HERE we are imperfect — so don’t sweat the small stuff — and do You Goo. You’ve got this!
Information Synthesis
In the beginning of this masterpiece, I set out to prove, with fancy facts, what I already know for sure, that you're precious and you MATTER, no matter what. As a reminder the purpose of this particular pursuit in becoming more intimate with our SELF, was to learn more about where we came from. From the lens cosmology, astrophysics the answers are — from the point of SINGULARITY, made up of all there ever was or “will be” consisting of — MATTER, SPACE, ENERGY (LIGHT) & INFINITE POTENTIAL.
And this conversation—in the world of relationship experts John and Julie Gottman—is what they’d call perpetual— ongoing & unsolvable. The matter that makes for interesting and stimulating conversations, if you learn how to have them— particularly when you’re of different opinions — which these topics have absolutely zero shortage of.
Here’s to tackling the big questions and getting support from the schools of thought that came before us— Baryon Asymmetry; Quantum Physics and the Field of Energy; the theory of Conformal Cyclic Cosmology (the Mirror Universe hypothesis) and the state of Infinite Potential; the First Law of Thermodynamics and its Conservation of Energy; Cosmology, etc.

Though like this “blog” that’s seemingly turning into a dissertation, in my pursuit of searching for answers to our far out questions — I make up we’ll eventually exhaust ourselves to the point where we finally collapse into the heart of the matter and doesn’t that sound relieving?

Family Systems Synthesis: The Force Field
Now that we have the math, cosmology and astrophysics receipts, let’s look at this story from a fictional family systems perspective to help you integrate the material and learn a bit more about The Force Field.
I’m finding there are a lot of relational goodies in the physics of it 💞
The Singularity (Static Energy):
Before time began, the universe existed as Static Energy—energy at rest. All four fundamental forces were huddled in a tight, silent embrace of infinite density (Gravity, Strong Force, Weak Force (More Like Patient Force) , and Electromagnetic Energy). There was no "me" or "us," just a single, solid point of Potential.
The Departure of "G" (The First Tension):
As the universe began to grow, Gravity (our friend "G") was the first to individuate. G was the pioneer; he let go of the family hug and stepped back to find his own space, creating the very first pull of Relational Tension in the cosmos—the birth of "me" vs. "us."
The Snap of "The Anchor" (The Internal Conflict):
With G standing apart, the Strong Force (the Anchor-energy that desperately wants to hold the core together) felt the pressure of expansion. This force pulled back so hard against the stretch that it created massive internal conflict. When the tension became too much, the bond snapped, triggering Inflation—a growth spurt that stretched the universe from subatomic size to the size of a soccer ball in a trillionth of a trillionth of a second. (Both trillionths’s intentional)!
The Birth of Light (The Final Individuation):
Only two family members remained in a final, tight embrace: Electromagnetic Energy (the social butterfly) and The Patient Change Agent (the Weak Force). As the universe cooled, even they had to let go. This final split released the Big Bang, transforming the static energy of the "soccer ball" into a hot, dense soup of Kinetic Energy—energy in motion.
The Merge (A New Freedom):
Now that the forces were separate, energy manifested as mirror opposites: Matter (+) and Antimatter (-). These star-crossed mirrors sought each other out instantly in a process called Annihilation. They met in a Merge, letting go of their heavy physical weight to become weightless Pure Light. They found a newfound freedom, moving as pure Kinetic Energy at the speed of light… no longer bound by mass.
The Intentional Survivor (The "One" in a Billion):
This is the birth of Grounded Presence. While the billion couples merged into the kinetic freedom of Light, there was one extra particle of Matter for every billion that chose a different lifestyle — the light. This survivor preferred to stay solid and present. By choosing to “stay here" over “taking flight," it became the universe's Potential Energy—the stored capacity to build a physical world.
The Gentle Containment (G’s Return):
Now that the survivor had established a grounded lifestyle, our friend Gravity (G) reached back out. He realized he needed the connection after all. He provided a Gentle Containment, pulling those solo traveling particles of Potential Energy together into stars, galaxies, and eventually, the biological matter that makes up YOU.
Far out G!
So as you can see from our cosmological family tree — we’re ALL royalty. And Gravity, the one who separated and individuated our warm hug to begin with has made the decision that we matter and we’re all in this together.
Okay, that’s great… but what’s up with Antimatter?
Why is it deemed the most precious physical matter on earth if it has the potential to “annihilate” us? Asking for a friend!
Short answer – because it’s costly, rare, and has the potential to annihilate destructive cells and cancer — that has the potential to keep our lives going.
Interestingly, the antimatter that humans have any access to is artificially made (shout out to authenticity) at particle physics laboratories like CERN with the going rate to create just ONE GRAM estimated to be around $62.5 - $300 trillion dollars. It turns out we’ve never even come close to creating that much!
One Point of Comparison — Your Body in Antimatter’s Gram Economy
As a point of reference, the average human body weighs 65,000 grams. If we were calculating cost per gram in a 1:1 ratio, it turns out in the economy of antimatter, your physical body is worth $19.5 quintillion (17 zeros) — yes that’s a number too, not too shabby!
Fun Fact: YOU Won The Ultimate Jackpot!
Statistically speaking, your existence is the ultimate miracle. While the odds of a single sperm meeting an egg are about 1 in 300 million, the probability of 'you' being born in the grand scheme of creation is estimated at a staggering 1 in 400 trillion. To put that in perspective, you are more likely to win both the Powerball and the Mega Millions jackpots simultaneously than you are to exist as your SELF. When you factor in the unbroken chain of thousands of ancestors who had to survive and meet at just the right moment for your matter to be here today, as you are, the odds become effectively zero. You aren't just a One-in-a-Billion Miracle; you are the winner of a cosmic lottery that defied every mathematical impossibility.
Turns out, you didn’t just win the lottery you hit the ultimate jackpot!

Let’s Fold CREATION & Theology Into The Mix!
Consider this: at the dawn of time, God said, "Let There Be Light." What’s truly remarkable is when we look at the core of the Christian story—the Resurrection. In the moment of Jesus — named Light of Revelation, endured his Crucifixion and subsequent Resurrection, many traditions and studies of the Shroud of Turin (Britannica) suggest a literal Flash of Light—a moment where God sacrificed His Matter (Life) by confronting life’s mirror Antimatter (Death) and was transformed into pure LIGHT creating everlasting Eternity. Three days later, His body—His Matter—was nowhere to be seen, but His Presence remains.
Do you see what I see? The "Merge" that happened at the beginning of time is the same transformation that offers us freedom from life’s mirror today. You are a walking, breathing light show that chose to stay grounded and present, but you are fueled by the same eternal energy that can never be destroyed— only be transformed. And in this story there’s Creation.
In light of the stats, that seems more plausible than not if you ask me that a Creator is most likely. But that’s just me! Heyyyy… wait a minute… ME - (m)atter = (e)nergy 2! Okay, I’m losing it.
A few final anecdotes in my pursuit to “PROVE” your preciousness with fancy facts 🪩
Ancient Wisdom:
From the Orphic Mysteries of Greece to Hinduism’s Brahmanda—the universe began as a Cosmic Egg. This suggests that creation wasn't a static event, but a hatching of Pure Potential. Hey, that sounds a lot like January’s Soft Like Goo Reflection!
For Fun — Plot Twist: The Story of Truth (A Fiction Intermission) — Written By Me:
Imagine a story where Matter is Truth and Antimatter is the Lie. Once upon a time, Truth existed in the Singularity. The Lie tried to "annihilate" it, but Truth was so vast that it sacrificed its mirror to Create Light—the source that sees all Truth and reveals every Lie.
Friendly Reminder — The Gift of Imperfection —> YOUR LIFE:
If you’re worried about being "perfect," remember: if the Big Bang had been symmetrically balanced, every particle of matter would have found its mirror and transformed into light. If that had happened, life as we know it—including YOU—would not exist. We only exist because of a one-in-a-billion miraculous asymmetry. Here’s to imperfection—it saved our lives! Without that so-called glitch, the possibility of becoming intimate with our SELF wouldn't even exist.

And the truth is, we never needed data to begin with… but these unconscious pieces of defensive mirrored glass that protect our Goo without consent like to “hold on,” like the Strong Force when G set sail, so we have to build a strong case to prevent an Internal Conflict in our continued journey to become more intimate with ourself that could lead to a Big Bang, if you catch my drift. So we have to move with precision and speed that Weak Force would suggest. And by the way, who gave The Alchemist the name “Weak Force” anyway? All of us know impulse control is one of the most difficult endeavors we humans embark upon.
This month is about remembering how precious you are and how much you matter. When you can internalize that truth—and see how asymmetry was the literal precursor to the formation of life—your life—you realize that becoming intimate with yourself, even in the imperfection, won’t annihilate you. Instead, it’s meant to transform you into soft, light, Goo — fully aware of your INFINITE POTENTIAL! 💫
Once more, the question is — what are YOU going to do with your potential? Because YOU Goo, are precious, and you MATTER.
So get to it and STOP worrying about being perfect!
We ALL are and thank God, we’re HERE because of it… so what are you worried about? 💫

HOMEWORK:
THEME: Imperfection is the precursor to intimacy. The Gift of Asymmetry: We learned that the gift of asymmetry during the Big Bang, was that our “extra” matter didn’t meet it’s mirror, which saved our life!
Cognitive Reflection (Journaling Exercise):
Write a list of three things you feel are “less than perfect” about yourself. Next, write a paragraph to each one and thank it for existing and making you human.
Write about a time you felt left out, rejected, or unchosen. How did that experience affect you, or shape you? Next, write an alternate ending — one where in a cosmic way you were chosen in that moment by something much greater than yourself.
Somatic Exploration (Somatic Intervention):
In the spirit of asymmetry, I invite you to look into a mirror. But unlike The Annihilation, rather than seeing an inversion, you’re simply seeing your reflection. That’s something different. Notice 5 aspects of your face that you find asymmetrical. After each one say out loud, for example, “I see my right eyebrow is higher than my left,” after - take a breath into the “imperfection,” hold and internally say “thank you for being imperfect”, and then exhale and release the tension. Take that. Cosmo Magazine.
Bonus: Self-Intimacy Practice (Play):
Get a deflated soccer ball and a pump to inflate it with. This is worth your while. You can come back to the intervention next time you need a reminder of your potential.
Lay the soccer ball down and observe its static resting energy.
Then connect the pump to it and inflate the ball.
Hold the ball in your hands and feel it in the palm of your hands.
The ball was the point of singularity, with infinite potential. YOU inflated it with potential.
Now get some people together and PLAY with it! It’s okay to have some FUN while we’re here after all!
As an aside — WHO and WHAT caused the ball to inflate. That’s you Goo… I see You!

If you were to take every single person on Earth—all 8 billion of us—and use a cosmic "Strong Force" vice to squeeze out all the 99.99% Field, the entire human race would fit inside a single sugar cube — wild!
Start by contemplating the fact that the universe, all that ever was, or will be, theoretically started from a point of Singularity.
Take a cup of hot water and drop a sugar cube in it and watch it disintegrate. Then stir.
When you look at the glass consider that only .01% of you is made up of matter (the sugar) and the rest of you (the water, and the glass, and what’s outside the glass theoretically) is The Field or other 99.99%. Write about how your matter experiences and interacts with the other 99.99% of you (space, energy, The Field and pure potential). It’s a trip!.
