Cherry Bomb N°5 — Be My Valentine 💌
What if the man who banned marriage was hiding a love story of his own? In this playful plot twist, Jessica Hansen, LMFT—Founder of CouplesTherapy.co—shares a Cherry Bomb comic reimagining Saint Valentine and Emperor Claudius II. Blending history and humor, it’s a reminder that love is fun!
Legend has it that Emperor Claudius II banned marriage during wartime to ensure men were more willing to die for his cause. It was believed that love would make a man weak in war… hmmm.
Saint Valentine seeks an audience with Claudius, hoping to remind him of the importance of love, marriage, and its sacred covenant unto God, not the Roman Empire.
Plot twist… Emperor Claudius II was secretly married—and caught with his bride behind a closed door by Saint Valentine.
Taking this new insight as a quiet permission slip, Saint Valentine began performing marriages in secret… under the cover of night.
As it turns out, Claudius II may have been like many in power—“do as I say, not as I do”—and sentenced Saint Valentine to death for his defiance.
Even in his darkest hour, Saint Valentine kept his heart open. He left behind a note to the jailer’s daughter, whom he had grown to love:
“Be My Valentine.”
And so the story goes…
From Emperor Claudius II’s perspective, it turns out making love is the antidote to making war.
